Drees & Sommer involved in the world’s first ever Cradle to Cradle® certification for building services mounting system

f.l.t.r. Dr. Peter Mösle (Drees & Sommer), Thomas Klenk (Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG), Norbert Heckmann (Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG) and Mike Blicker (EPEA) during the certificate presentation at Würth in Künzelsau.

Würth Group has been awarded Cradle to Cradle® certification for its VARIFIX® quick mounting system used for mounting building service lines such as pipes and power cable ducts. C2C experts at Drees & Sommer supported the long-established company by sharing their expertise and accompanying them through the certification process in collaboration with EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung.

As a world leader in the trade of assembly and fastening materials, Würth is the first company in its sector to engage in the subject of the circular economy. The first stage of the certification process dealt with the constituent elements of the system, the main component of which is galvanised steel. This involved ensuring that varietal purity was maintained, allowing the system to be disassembled into its initial materials after use. There is no longer any waste in the conventional sense – just re-usable construction materials and raw materials.

More and more products in the construction and property industry are achieving certification indicating compliance with the principle of a Cradle to Cradle circular economy. The purpose of the concept is to enable all constituent materials to be recycled and to avoid downcycling with loss of quality. The crucial characteristics of certified products are that none of their constituent materials present any risk to health; they can be separated by varietal identity and can be fully recycled.
