A new page has been turned in the history of the Hotel Reichshof, a building steeped in over 100 years of tradition. The heritage-protected establishment has re-opened its doors following comprehensive renovation and extensive restoration work. The hotel that has welcomed celebrities such as David Bowie, Diego Maradona and Peter Maffay was a bustling construction site for a year. Drees & Sommer supported the process of revitalizing the nearly 30,000 square meter hotel. As part of its controlling service for the financing bank, Drees & Sommer ensured the necessary transparency of costs, schedule and quality Levels.
The Reichshof Hamburg is located in Kirchenallee in the heart of the Hanseatic City, directly opposite the main railway station. When it opened with 303 rooms in 1910, it was Germany’s largest hotel. It has been heritage-protected since 2006. Despite several renovations over the years, in more recent times the Reichshof has been in urgent need of rehabilitation. For this reason, the former 4-star Maritim Hotel was closed in May 2014 and fully refurbished and equipped with state-of-the-art building services at a cost of some €30 million. The Reichshof has now become the first hotel in Europe to be opened under the “Curio – A collection by Hilton” brand.
Built in the style of the Roaring Twenties, the Reichshof features 278 rooms, junior and one-bedroom suites, various meeting and conference rooms, a spa and fitness area, as well as “Bar 1910”, formerly known as the “M&M Bar”. As part of the revitalization, all rooms were equipped with modern furniture and technology. Heritage-protected stylistic elements – such as Italian marble, elaborate stained glass windows and wood paneling – have been painstakingly restored to preserve the character of the historic hotel. The heritage-listed interior and furnishings of the dining room, which is modeled on a luxury liner, have been also been renovated. In future, guests will be welcomed to the “slowman” restaurant, made famous by celebrity chef Christian Rach and the television show “Rachs Restaurantschule” (restaurant school). The revitalization allows the Reichshof to meet the demands of a contemporary superior 4-star hotel and further consolidate its position in the Hamburg hotel industry.
