The Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNI) awarded one gold and five silver DGNB certificates for the campus of the Vienna University of Economics & Business.
On June 23, 2015, a total of six DGNB certificates were presented to the Rector of the Vienna University of Economics & Business, Prof. Dr. Christoph Badelt, during the Blue Built Congress 2015. The university received the prestigious awards for sustainable building quality for all buildings on the campus, which was completed in 2013. In addition to a Gold for the Teaching Center, five Silvers were awarded for other buildings.
The Drees & Sommer Green Building experts supported the principal, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien Neu GmbH, throughout the certification process. They assessed and certified each individual building jointly with the general planner Vasko & Partner and the architectural firm BUSarchitektur. The requirements for sustainable building quality – such as the reduction of life cycle costs, energy efficiency of the building envelope and building services equipment – had already been defined within the scope of the 2008 architectural competition.
The 160,000 square meter campus of the Vienna University of Economics & Business accommodates 25,000 students and some 1,500 employees. The six buildings include a total of almost 90 lecture halls and seminar rooms, four libraries, various self-study areas, administrative and infrastructure facilities, as well as an underground car park for 400 cars.
